Man City Women v Brighton & Hove Albion Women live: score, updates and line-ups

Full time at the Joie Stadium and City hold on for a 3-2 win after a breathless encounter. Shaw's early double and Charles' strike had them cruising 3-0 inside 17 minutes, but Garcia and Hayes dragged Brighton straight back into it before half-time. City couldn't find the cushion of a fourth despite dominating the ball and racking up eight corners, and had to see out a nervy finish as Brighton pushed late and Vanegas picked up a booking in stoppage time. A deserved three points for City on the stats, even if the scoreline made it far tighter than it should have been.

City have continued to push for that killer fourth in the closing stages, piling on the corners - up to eight now - with Fujino seeing an effort blocked after good work from Shaw. Brighton have barely threatened since the restart, their last meaningful contribution being Garcia's foul to concede possession, and with Murphy coming on late for George, it looks like they'll settle for a battling 3-2 defeat unless City find one more.

City have kept the pressure on after that double change, with Fowler and Shaw both going close - Fowler twice sent efforts just wide while Shaw forced a save out of Nnadozie before seeing another chance saved. Brighton's best moment came from Kirby, whose shot drifted the wrong side of the post, but the shots and corners count keeps growing City's way as they push for a fourth.

City have started the second half the better side, Hemp and Blindkilde Brown both forcing blocked efforts from early corners, while Clinton also dragged a shot wide after a Fujino pass. Brighton have had one sight of goal through Garcia, but his header from a Seike cross went high and wide, so City remain comfortably on top on the ball and in shots, though the scoreline stays locked at 3-2.

What a response from Brighton - Hayes glances home a Kirby cross to make it 3-2 and suddenly this one's wide open heading into first-half stoppage time. City still well on top in possession but their defence will need to be sharper after two quickfire concessions.

Brighton pull one back through Olivia Garcia, finishing from close range to make it 3-1, but that's come against the run of play after City's blistering start - Shaw and Hemp have been causing havoc throughout.

Shaw grabs her second! The Jamaican rises to meet another pinpoint Hemp cross and heads home from the centre of the box - City 2-0 up inside quarter of an hour and absolutely purring, with Brighton yet to register a shot.
